Perm Wrap Model Wavy 8s

PREP:

Shampoo hair with clarifying shampoo and towel dry.

SUPPLIES:

Zotos Professional perm kit. See our Perm Reference Chart to find the ideal perm for your client.
Use a tail comb, approximately 14 orange and blue benders, conventional perm rods, elastic rubber hair bands and end papers.

TOOLS:

Create your Wavy 8 tool by attaching two benders together with an elastic rubber hair band at one end. Create 7 or 8 of each color using orange and blue color benders.

STEP 1

Take deep, off-centered, zig zag parting from the top front of the head to the back of the head. All remaining sections will be a vertical parting.

STEP 2

Starting on the left side of the head take 2” vertical sections combing the hair neatly. Using an orange bender tool, place (straddle) the connected benders over the top of the section. Weave the hair over the right side bender (away from the face) under, then back through the center and then over the left side and through the center again, making a figure “8”. Continue figure “8” wrapping, leaving 2 inches of ends through the center of the benders at the bottom of the section.

STEP 3

Secure the ends of the hair using an end paper and wrap the ends down on a conventional purple perm rod. Then using the elastic from the perm rod, fasten behind the benders. This will secure the benders and rod in place.

Continue wrapping alternating orange and blue bender tools until you reach the center of the back of the head.

STEP 4

On the right side of the head repeat Steps 2 and 3 making one important change. Start wrapping the 2" vertical section up and over the LEFT bender. This will keep the hair wave movement away from the face.

Continue wrapping alternating orange and blue bender tools until you reach the center of the back of the head.

COMPLETED WRAP

During wrapping maintain the vertical weaving. The goal is to stay on the parietal ridge.

HELPFUL HINTS:

  • Use a single endpaper lengthwise to capture the most amount of ends in the perm rod.
  • Make sure the hair is damp before adding waving lotion. Too much water will dilute the permanent wave solution.
  • Use a paper towel to blot each bender before applying waving lotion.
  • Use a larger conventional perm rod to create looser ends.
