Spring Cleaning: Hair Care Routine Reset for a Fresh Start

The birds are chirping, the stores are stocked with floral prints, and the sun is finally setting later than 4:00 PM. This can only mean one thing: Spring is here! Your wardrobe may be ready for warmer weather, but what about your hair?

As we dive into the new season, it’s the perfect time for a spring refresh. This hair care routine reset guide will cover everything you need to give your locks some love after months of being heated, tucked under hats, and dried out by cold winter air.

Refresh your hair care routine with Biotera, one of our favorite products for all hair types.

What’s Your Type?

It’s a great idea to create your hair routine to compliment your hair type and needs. There is a range of products designed to support your type. Create the best result using products that are designed to give you your optimal hair.

Biotera has options for all hair types, from straight to curly, color-treated, dry, damaged, flat or growing out!

How to Tell if You Have Fine Hair

Fine hair often appears thin, may be prone to flatness, and can even be sparse in some portions of the scalp. Additionally, you can do a feel test to see how fine your hair is.

Take one single strand of your hair and lay it on the table. If you can barely see the strand or feel it between your fingertips, then you have fine hair. Biotera Ultra Thick & Full is specially designed to meet the needs of fine or limp hair.

How Often Should You Shampoo Your Hair?

Shampooing is the most fundamental aspect of your hair care routine, as it removes the debris, excess oil, perspiration, and product build up. Not removing dirt and debris can lead to clogged hair follicles and could cause hair loss.  How often you shampoo is a personal preference that can be based on your lifestyle, your profession, your hair type, scalp health, and hair density.

Tips for non-shampoo days:

  • Use a shower cap on the days you shower but skip washing your hair. Shower caps have come a long way. There are even washable and eco-friendly options available.
  • Keep your hair fresh without shampooing by using dry shampoo.

Ultimately, there is no hard and fast rule for shampooing, do what makes you comfortable and confident.

Shampoo Method

  1. Completely saturate the hair with water.
  2. Squeeze a quarter sized dab of shampoo into hands first, do not apply directly to scalp.
  3. Emulsify shampoo in hands by rubbing hands together.
  4. Massage shampoo to scalp first, add additional water, not shampoo, to help ease the dispersing through hair.
  5. Continue shampooing from mid lengths to ends.
  6. Rinse well.
  7. If scalp or hair feels oily then repeat steps 1-6 again.

Choosing the Right Conditioner

Conditioners can be moisturizing or hydrating. There are many different conditioners out there, each meant to address a particular concern or provide a benefit. A daily conditioner is to be used following shampoo and gives you light to moderate moisturization. A deep treatment is intended to give you the most hydration and should be used on a weekly basis in place of your daily conditioner. The leave in conditioner can be used on a regular basis to provide immediate slip for ease of detangling and protection.

Biotera’s line of conditioners cover a variety of hair types:

  • Color Protecting Conditioner increases the longevity of the color.
  • Anti Frizz Conditioner locks out frizz for 3 days when used as a system.
  • Long and Healthy Conditioner strengthens the hair for those who are wanting to maintain their long hair or grow theirs out.
  • Thick and Full Conditioner is weightless conditioning, ideal for fine hair.
  • Ultra Color Protection Conditioner is a sulfate free conditioner for vivid and fun hair color longevity.
  • Ultra Moisturizing Conditioner is for medium to thick, extremely dry hair.
  • Moisturizing Conditioner is for fine to medium dry hair.

For Colored Hair

Biotera Ultra Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner is part of our color-safe collection. Color rinsing out is a common problem for women who dye their hair, especially when maintaining a highly saturated color.

If you’re thinking of dyeing your hair this spring, consider stocking up on the right care products beforehand.

For Dry or Damaged Hair

If you have dry or damaged hair, Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner with marula oil is a color-safe collection that replenishes very dry, damaged, coarse or chemically-treated hair to deeply condition and hydrate. The paraben-free formulas gently restore the beauty and radiance to extremely dry or over-worked hair.

Need more moisture? Try adding in our Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner. It’s easy to add to your routine. After using Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo, just spray Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioner evenly onto clean, damp hair, do not rinse. Then you’re ready to style your hair.

For Fine Hair

Fine hair can be prone to dryness or quickly weighed down by heavy products. Try creating a routine using Zotos Professional Biotera Ultra Thick & Full Shampoo and Biotera Ultra Thick & Full Conditioner with caffeine extract to care for fine hair.

For Long or Growing Hair

Growing your hair out takes patience, but good products don’t hurt either. Split ends can derail your dreams of long hair.

If you’re thinking of growing your hair or keeping your current long length, try using Biotera Long & Healthy Shampoo and Conditioner featuring pomegranate oil. Designed with the needs of long-haired beauties, this is a color-safe, paraben-free collection that gently restores the beauty & radiance to hair to help make long hair softer and healthier looking.

For Frizzy or Unruly Hair

Curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse. Managing the frizz might feel like a full-time job without the right products. Try using products designed to tame frizz without minimizing volume.

Skip the frizz witih our Biotera Anti-Frizz Routine:

  1. Apply Biotera Anti-Frizz Shampoo to wet hair. Lather. Rinse.
  2. Apply Biotera Anti-Frizz Conditioner to clean, damp hair. Rinse.
  3. Spray Biotera Anti-Frizz Leave-In Conditioner evenly onto clean, damp hair and comb through. Style as usual.

Unlike non-conditioning shampoos, using the Biotera Anti-Frizz Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave-In conditioner together as a system can help kick frizz to the curb for up to three days, even in hot weather with high humidity levels.

Safety Styling Tips

Try to use heat protectant spray before curling or straightening your hair. Heat can damage hair, so even with protective sprays, try to use the lowest setting to both achieve your look and avoid unnecessary damage.

Instead of immediately reaching for the brush after you get out of the shower, try detangling hair gently with a comb after shampooing. You may instinctively reach for the brush, but brushing without combing first can be too harsh. Do you always brush from the root down? Try starting at the bottom of your hair and working your way up.

For everyday use, try using a soft-bristle brush that gently works out tangles without pulling out too much hair.

Let It Air Dry

We know that blow dryers are amazingly convenient, but they can dry out your hair. Every now and then, experiment with wrapping your hair in a towel, then let it air dry. It may take longer, but it’s a nice excuse to relax and treat yourself to turn any day into a mini spa day.

If you’re more of a morning shower person, try using a shower cap to keep your style fresh, then save the evenings for your hair treatments. Who doesn’t like waking up gorgeous?

Get Regular Trims

Even if you’re growing out your hair, trimming can prevent breakage. Usually, people try to visit the salon every 3 months or so for a routine trim. Regular trims can help get ahead of dead ends and split hair, and keep you on track to meet your long-term hair goals.
